Modern Foreign Languages

French is an established part of the Curriculum at St Mary’s and is taught weekly throughout KS2. Key skills are taught in the Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing of French in line with the New National Curriculum 2014 and the Framework for Languages at KS2. Lessons are topic based and relevant to the everyday lives of the children. Topics for this year include Bonjour!Hello!, How old am I? and Please and Thank You (Year 3/4), My Home, Our Town and Au café (Year 5/6) . We have links with a group of small schools in and around the village of Les Châtelliers-Châteaumur in the Vendée region, North West of France. We enjoy sending and receiving Christmas messages, writing pen pal letters and we also work on a shared topic during the Summer Term e.g. creating leaflets about our town.
