Summer Holidays
We are now at the end of term and it feels very different to our usual end of school year.
We hope that you all have a good break and come back to school rested, refreshed and excited for what next year has in store for you.
Current year 3, we shall be eagerly awaiting your return to school as year 4.
Current year 4, we shall be following your progress as you move on to year 5.
We have missed each and every one of you over the last few months.
It has been a strange and challenging year but we know you will fit back into school life when you return after the summer.
Although some things will be different next year, school will continue and happy times will return.
We want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Summer Holiday !
From The Year 3/4 Team - which you are all a part of.
Week 11 - Week beginning 6/7/20
Hi Everyone!
We have finally made it to the last week of term. What a strange year it has been! Life has changed in many ways and we have lots of new routines to get used to but remember, we are all learning together. We have missed you all so much and can't wait until we're back together at St Mary's.
What new skills have you learned whilst being at home? The photo gallery shows cooking, sewing, building, photography, gardening, sports, crafts and lots of outdoor play as well as plenty of Maths and English! Well done!
This week and through the summer, remember to keep up your reading and times tables as well as practise you handwriting as we suggested last week. You will still have access to both Active Learn and Rockstars throughout the holidays.
Work hard this week and keep sending in your photographs - we love receiving them all. Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing you after the summer holiday,
The Year 3/4 team
Times tables Rockstars
The final Rockstars challenge has been set - try to practise as often as you can. Last week, the teachers were victorious against both Year 3 and Year 4.
Remember if you practise in the Studio, you are working towards improving your rock status. Congratulations this week goes to avatar Alexis Lombardo who has been promoted to Breakthrough Artist from Unsigned Act. Well done and keep up the hard work.
As it is the final week, lets see how many Rockstars we can see logging on to compete and improve - we're always checking!
Have a great summer and keep practising so we can all become Rock Heroes!!
Topic Activities
This week we would like you to be creative and think about if you could design your own school what would it be like?
You could write, draw or build your own school and have the final say over every detail.
For this task you need to consider the following:
1.The school's name and motto.
2.Uniform - colour and design.
3.The school badge.
4.The design of the building- one, two or more floors? Think about the playground and fields - sports' courts or pitches?
5. Where will the school be- seaside, country or town?
6. The lessons to be taught.
7. The teachers - these could be people that you would like to teach a certain subject ... David Beckham to teach sport or Banksy to teach art?
You may think of other points to be added to your design, including how the classrooms would look.
Please send your photographs in, as we really like to see them.
Good Luck and be as creative as you can!
Hello everyone.
Here we are at the beginning of another week of learning.
We have had some amazing weather and the photographs of your sporting pursuits have shown this. If you have not yet had chance to look please do. The photographs are on the Year 3 and 4 Virtual Sports' Week page.
Do keep sending your photographs in of the work that you have been completing too. We have had some great drawings and pressed flowers.
Keep up with your reading and times tables and try to produce a little writing so that your presentation is amazing for when we all come back together very soon.
Another Rockstars challenge is being set up, so we, the Year 3 /4 staff, challenge you to do your very best!
It does seem like such a long time since we were all at school but hopefully it will not be long until we are all together again.
Take care,
The Year 3 and 4 Team x

Topic Activities
Last week was Virtual Sports Week which we hope you all took part in. If you haven't sent your photos in yet, please do so and we'll put them on the website.
This week we'd like you to continue the PE theme and choose an activity from the list below:
Hello children,
We hope you’ve all had a busy week and have been enjoying your school activities. We’ve loved seeing your photos of what you’ve been up to.
You may have found it tricky to draw or take spring photographs outside with the weather we’ve been having! The thunder and lightning was very exciting to watch though! If you haven’t managed to finish last week’s topic work yet, just send in your photos when the weather improves and you can get outside again.
This week, if we were at school, it would be time for our sports day so we have an exciting virtual sports day to take part in this year – the rest of your family could take part too!
Remember to keep reading. Maybe this week you could look up the meaning of any new words you come across then include them in your English work.
Keep practising your times tables. It’s been great to see some new faces on Rockstars lately and some of your recall speeds mean you will improve your Rock status soon. Keep battling! Who will be victorious in each Maths group this week?
Finally, if you haven’t already, why don’t you take part in the Armed Forces Day photo?
Have a great week and we look forward to seeing some very busy photographs from you,
The 3/4 team.
Although we have missed taking part in school events for the past few weeks, Sports Day is one which we know all St Marys children love and so from Monday 22nd June to Friday 26th June a Virtual Sports Week will take place. How exciting!!
This week as a part of our Home Learning, we would like you to take part in the sports activities that have been designed for you.
Sports Week is all about having FUN and being active so we encourage families to join in with children and take part in the virtual event!
The activities that have been designed require minimal resources, all of which you can find in your household. We recommend that you complete 2 activities per day. Each time you complete an activity, you must remember to record your scores on the recording sheet.
In the booklet below you will find:
We are confident that years 3 and 4 will do their best and take part in the Virtual Sports Week with full enthusiasm, we are looking forward to the pictures that will be sent in!
Finally, don't forget to take a picture of yourself holding your recording sheet and send it to us on Friday 26th of June so we can see what you've scored for each activity.
Mr Bond will be posting videos where he will demonstrate the different activities so keep a look out.

Good luck
Hello children,
Even though it seems a long time since we saw you, we do think about you each week and wonder what you have been up to.
We are still in school for one or two days each week - working with children from Year F to Year 5!
This is different for all of us as we are working in pairs.
As the weather has slightly changed, we still hope you are getting out in the open air, whether that is in your garden or going for walks. Keep watching out for evidence in the countryside for the changes that the Spring has brought. Also remember to send photographs in to show us how you are keeping busy.
We know that some of you will be working hard to improve your recall of times tables by taking part in Rockstars competitions. If you have not yet logged in, then please do so.
The great thing about reading is that it is an activity to be done anywhere, so please take the opportunity to read a variety of materials and even look up a new author or read to someone different in your family.
Whatever you do this week, keep us informed, as we love to hear of the exciting activities that you are spending your time on.

Following on from last week, we'd like you to look at all the colours around you outside, which tell you it's spring. If you sit quietly outside you'll hear sounds like birds calling, bees buzzing and leaves rustling.
This week produce a piece of art inspired by the colours of spring. This could be:
If you can't get outside because of the weather, you could carefully copy a picture from a magazine or the internet.
Remember to send your photos to us so we can share your hard work on the website.
Here are a few ideas:
Hello everyone,
We hope that you are are all well and have been enjoying the fantastic weather we've been having. Below is the work for next week. Remember to keep practising your reading. Maybe, you could challenge yourself to read five different types of text this week such as magazines, fiction books, recipes, newspapers and information texts.
Keep practising your times tables too - there are some exciting battles taking place on Rockstars. Remember, every time you practise on the site your score will be added to the battles. If you want to improve your Rock icon status then practise in the Studio. P J McPhillimy (great avatar name!) has worked hard to become a Breakthrough Artist this week - well done!
Don't forget, every time you practise you also earn coins which you can spend in the shop to improve or change you avatar's image.
Keep working hard and we hope to see you soon. We love to see your photos of what you've been up to!
Hopefully, we shall all be together soon. Take care,
The year 3/4 team.
Year 4
As it is Spring, this week's activities are based upon the season and the changes that we can see take place before our eyes.
Flowers
Thinking about Spring, we would like you to focus on nature and try pressing some flowers.
For this you will need to pick some flowers from your garden or whilst on a walk. Make sure that you are allowed to take them and if you haven't got any flowers you could pick daisies or buttercups.
Once you have picked them, get a piece of paper and put them on it.
Next fold it in half with the flowers in it.
Now put a pile of books on top of them.
After a week take a look and they should be dried out .
You could glue them on to paper to make a picture or card.
Remember to send a photograph in to us at school.
Birds
Now there is less traffic on the roads it has become easier to hear the birds that visit our gardens and parks. We would like you to see if you could find out about the type of birds that visit you. You need to look carefully and either keep a tally chart of the different varieties or produce a fact file about one of them.
Decorate with pictures of the birds that you see and send some photographs of your fact files to us here at school.
Good luck in your search !
Hello everyone. We hope you are all keeping well, safe and active? For the coming week there are more maths and English tasks to be completed, plus we would like you to design and make a treasure box to fill with memories of the last few weeks.
We love to see what you have been doing at home and if you haven't done so yet, then please send in a self-portrait to the school, to be put on the railings.
Do make the most of the glorious weather that we have been lucky enough to have and remember to read and work on learning your tables. We hope to see you all soon.

Times Tables Rockstars

Can you improve your studio speed enough to increase your rock status?
If so we'll display your rock name here next week.
Get practising everyone! Good luck!
This week we would like you to make a treasure box to include all your memories that you have created over the last few weeks. You can make your treasure box using; a shoe box, cardboard box or even a tissue box!
Be creative and remember that you can include notes, pictures or even small items.
We look forward to looking at your treasure boxes .
Hello everyone.
Here we are on week 5 and we have more work for you to complete.
Remember, the most important activities that you can do whilst away from school are reading (both aloud and in your head) and learning your times tables and their matching division facts.
If you can get someone to read to, see if they will ask you questions about what you are reading. You can read anything, as a broad variety of texts is best for you. Have a look around the home - the kitchen is a great source of reading materials, such as the back of a cereal box or recipe books.
Practise saying your tables, first in order and then get someone to ask you quick questions that are not in order.Use practical items to work out problems. For 2x10, put out two lots of 10 stones so that you can see the amount in front of you. We know you have got the imagination,so see what you can use. Let us see the most imaginative and practical ways that you can record these facts - please send your photographs in to us, so that we can put them onto our website.

We imagine you must have gathered lots of interesting information about Mayans over the past few weeks. This week we would like you to research about the Mayan Gods and create a fact file about your chosen God. Below you will find information about some of the main Gods. We have also provided a fact file template that you may want to use.
If you want, you can also create a version of your own God, it will be brilliant to see the different powers you invent .
Hello everyone,
We hope that you are keeping safe and are all well. We have been thinking about you all and wondering how you are doing with the work that has been set on here. Please be patient with those who are trying to help you.
If you have not realised it yet, if we were at school, we would be studying the Mayan civilisation. If you have access to a computer, you could find out about how these people lived?
As the weather has been so great we imagine that you have been having fun outside as well as doing some work. We would love to see your photos!
Hopefully, we shall all be together soon. Take care,

Topic Activities:
This week we would like you to create a timeline for a topic of your choice. Here are some examples you may want to research:
As you have been learning about the Mayans, below you will find an information sheet to help you make a timeline for the Ancient Mayans.
You can choose how you would like to present the timeline. Using a lollipop stick or a strip of card is a creative way!
From Mrs Ayres: School is really quiet without the children and we miss them so much. Wouldn't it be fantastic if every child drew a self portrait of themselves on an A4 sheet of paper with their arms outstretched which we could put on the perimeter fence? Not only would it brighten up the fence but it would be a daily reminder of who makes our school community so special. If you would like to take part, please draw yourself with your arms outstretched, colour it carefully and add your first name only.
On your daily walk you can post your picture in the letter box on Station Road, outside Picasso class or post them to school if you don't live close by. We look forward to seeing them.
Here we are in May already and below you will find the work for this week.
We want you to know that we are thinking about all of you as we are busy at home and in school writing your reports.
We are thrilled to see so many of you sending in your photographs of the activities that you have been involved in at home.
