Governor Roles and Committee Membership 2023-24
Statement
As a school we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:
- target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
- develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation
- prioritise training and awareness - raising in identified areas
- address potential 'blind spots' through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks
However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.

Governor Profiles
|
I became a Foundation Governor in January of 2014 as a representative of St. Mary’s Church, to which I am an active member of the congregation. |
Mrs Ellie Dunmore |
Associate Governor |
|
I am a Christian first and foremost and have a heart to serve. Having retired from teaching two years ago I have been volunteering for a charity called Feed the Hungry, based in Hinckley, going into schools to share the charity's work and carrying out food packing and distribution through them. Part of my teaching role was to oversee vulnerable groups - I was the SENDCO and worked in Inclusion as Assistant Head Teacher, supporting differently able children to meet their potential. It was immensely rewarding and I now count it a privilege to be able to use my educational experience to support St Mary's as a Governor. It is so encouraging to see the school work hard to enable all children to develop their potential - a foundation for their future, using Christian values to underpin this and I look forward to supporting the school as it continues its journey of success. |
Mrs Elaine Stock |
Vice Governor |

As a father of three boys, one at St Mary's, I have a very personal interest in the success of the school. However I am a great believer in education being a vital part of everyone's life, and this drives me to support the school and its staff to provide the best education to every student that attends St Mary's. I want all the children to progress in life skills as well as education, to encourage children to be positive about themselves and others and continue to dream and believe in what they can attain. I use my skills from my analytical background and experience in Change/Project Management to help the Governing Body and school. I work locally at Cadent and in my spare time I also coach a local football team. |

I have lived in Hinckley since 1972 and both of my children attended St Mary's and presently one of my granddaughters. When my children were here, I assisted in the school with reading etc, taught swimming and was an active parent in the PTA being secretary for a while. I taught swimming at Hinckley Swimming Club for many years and am still a trustee of the club. I have been a Borough Councillor and the Borough Mayor. I am also on the John Cleveland Foundation committee at The Hinckley School. My other interests are being a member of the Leicester Road Residents Group, Hinckley District Past and Present (a history/heritage group) and a volunteer at the Hinckley Museum. I am extremely interested in the heritage and history of our borough. I have always been interested in education and this school is full of history and, being associated with St Mary's Church, it is an important part of our town. I look forward to being a part of the team going forward to more success and achievements for the children, and the school. |

I have had the privilege of teaching at St Mary’s since 2012. During that time, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach a variety of amazing children and to build positive relationships with their parents and carers. Throughout my time teaching at St Mary’s, I have had the good fortune of working with so many fantastic members of staff, who I look forward to representing on our governing body. |
Mr Aidan Roper | Staff Governor |
|
I’m delighted to have joined St Mary’s School as a Parent Governor and am really looking forward to supporting the school, its pupils and wider community. I also hold the position of Chair of the School PTA (SMSC). My daughter is also at the school. I’ve always been passionate about being involved in the local community and have been fortunate to take part in a number of local events, including supporting the Hinckley Carnival and being involved with the Concordia Theatre. I really value the sense of community that exists locally and the opportunities we have to bring people together. Professionally, I have spent much of my career working in the legal sector, including in corporate and leadership roles. This has given me experience in areas such as governance, risk, strategy, people management and organisational development — skills which I hope to bring to my role as a governor.
In my spare time I’m an avid crafter and creator. |
Sarah Bolton | Parent Governor |

Being a school co-opted governor is an important opportunity to support the continued growth and success of the school community. Having been a staff governor for the past 8 years, alongside my role as a Year 5/6 teacher, it has been a privilege to contribute both inside and outside the classroom.
