Welcome to Year 3 and 4. Your child will be in one of three classes-Chanel Class, Gaudi Class or Newton Class. Below you will find lots of information to support your child's learning journey this year and lots of photographs of learning in action.

Year 3/4 African Drumming International Week in September

Flamenco Dancing

During Black History month, we used Now-Press-Play to experience the achievements of Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman.

            

After finishing our history topic on Roman Britain, we had a Now-Press-Play experience to discover how the Romans reacted and responded after Boudicca’s rebellion.

        

The children have really enjoyed working together to complete several Commando Joe’s missions based on Ed Stafford’s mission to walk the entire length of the Amazon River.

              

                                    

Children in years 3 and 4 did a fantastic job of singing various Christmas carols as part of Hinckley’s ‘Christmas lights switch on’ celebrations.

On Mental Health Day, Years 3 and 4 enjoyed using Canva to design their own affirmation posters to help each other feel positive and happy

Our Years 3/4 pupils took part in the KS2 Dance Festival at Green Towers in February and had an amazing time! They represented the school brilliantly, showing great enthusiasm, confidence and some fantastic dance moves.

For STEM week, Y3/4 had a great morning taking part in a science assembly delivered by Sublime Science! The children loved the exciting experiments and learnt lots of fascinating scientific facts along the way.

In March, Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic time watching a presentation from Hinckley Past & Present. Learning about Victorian Hinckley has made it even more interesting. Can you spot Castle street?

Chanel class enjoyed watching a live lesson from the BBC for National Science Week. They were busy investigating the correlation between age and height.
   
Years 3 and 4 have been stepping back in time as part of their topic on Victorian Hinckley.

In March they enjoyed a fantastic Victorian Day, experiencing what school life was like in the past!

Did you know? schools in the Victorian era like St Mary's that were linked to churches often had arched windows. These were inspired by church architecture and are still visible on some buildings around Hinckley today!

Skipping workshop with 'Skip2bFit'

We attempted various military style 'Physical Training' drills. Soldiers in World War 2 had to do similar exercises

Commando Joe's - building towers inspired by the Eiffel Tower

Maths - solving decimal problems to help prevent a shanty town being destroyed

We loved watching A.S.A's performance of Dick Whittington!

Planting tomato seeds

As part of Food For Life, we have planted tomato seeds so that we can grow our own tomato plants.

We will regularly check and water them, and will move them to a sunny location when the seeds have germinated so that the leaves can get sunlight to help the plants to grow.

Visit to Hinckley Library

Chanel class, Gaudi class and Newton class have all visited Hinckley Library. As a result, lots of the children now have a library card so that they can enjoy reading a variety of amazing books from Hinckley Library. 
A book is a gift you can open again and again’

We listened to relaxing, classical music to help us focus whilst writing our story based on 'The Flood'.

We experienced the aftermath of a classroom being devastated by flooding

British Science Week

Online lesson with National Farmers Union, learning about how farms are becoming more sustainable

We used various forensic techniques to solve which suspect stole a diamond from a crime scene

Now Press Play - we experienced how Charles Darwin found evidence to try to prove his theory of evolution

Maths - we enjoyed a Now Press Play experience where we had to solve problems related to recognising fractions, equivalent fractions and fractions of amounts to save passengers on the Titanic

Commando Joe's (Levison Wood mission 8). We had to make S.O.S. signals so that we could be rescued from the Sahara Desert

DT - Seasonal Stockings 

 Years 3 and 4 have had a fantastic few weeks exploring how stockings are made and learning the different types of stitches. The children designed, made and evaluated their own Christmas stocking.

We have been completing missions based on the British explorer Levison Wood

Mission 1 - collecting water from wells and transporting to containers

Mission 2 - moving vital supplies whilst avoiding quick sand in the desert

Mission 3 - building bridges to get supplies across the River Nile

Mission 4 - camels had to lead explorers through a sandstorm, whilst also avoiding quick sand.

Rock Kidz - 

The children loved taking part in workshops with Rock Kidz!

Computing

 In this unit, we have been looking at the different ways computers are connected and the difference between digital and non digital.
