Welcome to Year 3 and 4. Your child will be in one of three classes-Braille Class, Hockney Class or Newton Class. Below you will find lots of information to support your child's learning journey this year and lots of photographs of learning in action.
The Iron Man by Ted Hughes
This term, we are reading The Iron Man (written by Ted Hughes). Take a look at our immersive displays, based on the story.
We wrote diary entries, based on the start of chapter 1
Spring Term 2023
Our most recent DT project has been all about greenhouses. We first explored existing greenhouses and discussed the purpose of them, in particular mini greenhouses. Before we started to make our very own mini greenhouse, we first had to design it. This involved working as a team and investigating with different types of materials to ensure our design met the criteria. We then had great fun using different tools to make our mini greenhouses. It took lots of effort and patience. Take a look at how we progressed!
In RE, we have been exploring the different Hindu deities and what each God symbolises. It was very interesting to see what is included in a puja tray (worship tray) and how Hindus worship God at home. We learnt about Lord Ganesh who has an elephant head and is one of the most popular Hindu deities. Can you identify what each God symbolises?
Safer Internet Day
It was Safer Internet Day on Tuesday the 7th of February and the theme this year is 'Want to Talk About It?'. We developed our understanding of the importance of staying safe online and completed a range of activities to achieve this.
As part of our history topic ‘Anglo-Saxons, Picts and Scots’ , we read the story of Beowulf. We then drew illustrations to make a comic strip of the story.
This term we have really enjoyed creating projects on 'Scratch' as a part of our 'Sequencing sounds' unit. Take a look at a few of our final projects and don't forget to turn up the volume!
Anglo-Saxon Day
As part of our history topic on Anglo-Saxons, Picts and Scots, we had a fantastic day with Historic Workshops! We had the opportunity to:
- see some amazing Anglo-Saxon artefacts;
- find out about 'The Witan' (how Anglo-Saxon kings made decisions);
- play Anglo-Saxon games
- discover Anglo-Saxon battle tactics
Commando Joe's - Nellie Bly
We have been learning about the explorer Nellie Bly in Commando Joe's.
She travelled around the world in 72 days, which was a world record at the time.
Mission 1 - we built a map of the world#

Mission 3 - we designed and built towers (inspired by the Eiffel Tower)
Mission 4 - we de-coded messages with hieroglyphics.

During Spring 2023, we are reading The Lion, The Witch and The wardrobe (by C.S. Lewis) as part of our English lessons.
Mr Tumnus feels very guilty about what he was going to do to Lucy for The White Witch. He has written an apology letter to her. Have a look at what he has written/ Will Lucy forgive him???
We have been writing descriptions (from Lucy's perspective) as she enters the wardrobe and Narnia.
